Gifted & Talented / Enrichment Programs
Our Gifted & Talented Program begins in kindergarten, with special lessons and activities designed to expand the classroom curriculum. In grades one and two, individual activities are geared to stimulating creativity and higher-order thinking skills. Beginning in grade three, children are chosen using a variety of criteria, including standardized test scores, classroom performance, teacher recommendation, and individual and group ability scores. Children selected for the program work on projects which test their resourcefulness and ambition.
Beginning in grade six, students selected for the program will choose a project each marking period, from a menu of ideas in math, literacy, or science, and complete this under the guidance of their classroom teacher and a faculty mentor. Students present their finished projects to their classmates to share what they have learned. Projects are graded under a rubric system, with points added to final report card grades.
